About Cracked Crab
Nestled in the heart of Pismo Beach, California, at 751 Price Street, the Cracked Crab stands as a beacon for seafood lovers seeking authenticity, freshness, and a genuine coastal experience. Since its founding in 1999 by Mike and Kathy Lee, this beloved eatery has carved out a reputation as one of the region’s premier destinations for seafood, celebrated for its commitment to quality, local sourcing, and a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that captures the spirit of California’s Central Coast[1][2][4].
The Cracked Crab is more than just a restaurant—it’s a culinary institution rooted in the values of its founders. Mike Lee, a former president and CEO of a national restaurant company, and Kathy Lee, his partner in both life and business, brought decades of corporate restaurant experience to their vision for a seafood house that would prioritize freshness, community, and fun[4][5]. Their mission, “to provide excellent food and service to all of our guests in a clean, comfortable, and FUN atmosphere,” is evident in every aspect of the dining experience, from the moment guests walk through the door to the last bite of their meal[4].
At the core of the Cracked Crab’s identity is its dedication to serving only the freshest seafood available. The menu changes daily, reflecting what is available from local fishermen and markets, ensuring that every dish is crafted from the day’s best catch[2][4]. This commitment to freshness extends beyond seafood; the restaurant also sources meat from a local butcher, bread from a local baker, and fresh produce from Peacock Farms, which even built a greenhouse of tomatoes specifically for the Cracked Crab[4]. This farm-to-table approach not only supports the local economy but also guarantees that every ingredient is of the highest quality.
The Cracked Crab’s signature offerings include a variety of shellfish, with a special emphasis on crack-your-own crab and other shellfish, inviting diners to roll up their sleeves and dive into the experience. The restaurant’s seascape mural and rustic, beach-shack-meets-chic-California vibe create an inviting environment where strangers quickly become friends[2]. The blue neon sign out front acts as a siren’s call to seafood enthusiasts, drawing them in for a meal that is both memorable and satisfying[2].
Located just steps from the iconic Pismo Beach Pier, the Cracked Crab is perfectly situated for visitors exploring the area’s top attractions. Its central location makes it an ideal stop after a day of sightseeing, beachcombing, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the Central Coast[2][4]. While the restaurant itself does not have dedicated parking, ample street parking is available nearby, including in the middle of Price Street, making it convenient for both locals and tourists[4].
The Cracked Crab operates on a walk-in-only basis, a policy that underscores its commitment to accessibility and spontaneity. The intimate size of the restaurant means that reservations are not accepted, but the friendly staff and efficient service ensure that guests are seated as quickly as possible[1]. The hours of operation are generous, with the restaurant open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 1:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, accommodating both lunch and dinner crowds[4].
Beyond its food and atmosphere, the Cracked Crab is known for its community spirit. Mike and Kathy Lee have cultivated a loyal following by treating every guest like family, and their hands-on approach to running the business is evident in the personal touches throughout the restaurant[4][5]. Whether it’s the daily menu updates, the locally sourced ingredients, or the warm, welcoming staff, every detail is designed to create a dining experience that is both exceptional and authentic.
For those seeking top-notch, no-frills, day-caught fresh seafood in a setting that feels like home, the Cracked Crab at 751 Price Street, Pismo Beach, CA 93449, is the place to be. With its rich history, commitment to quality, and vibrant community atmosphere, it’s no wonder that the Cracked Crab has become a reigning champion of seafood spots on the Central Coast[2][4]. Did I go 2 nights in a row to eat the bucket all by my damned self? I sure did. Sourdough bread to start was so good. The first night I got the steamed clams and added rice to it. So delicious. Second night I got shrimp cocktail. Also delicious. the service is wonderful and the servers are all super nice. Ambience was great too.

Fantastic food! We split a "single boil" and added lobster tails (x3!). Glad we split. Huge portions. Hot and fresh! Service was even better than the food. Brandy was amazing. Some of the best and friendliest service we have had.

Cracked Crab is an awesome seafood restaurant in Pismo Beach. It is located close to the main beach and pier in a really nice area. We arrived just after 11:00 AM for a Father’s Day lunch and we were seated only minutes after checking in. The dining room is themed really nicely and our table was the perfect size. We ordered drinks and appetizers just after being seated, and everything came out relatively quickly. We got the lobster mac and cheese and the crab dip for our appetizers, and both were really delicious. When it came time to order the main dish I chose the fish and chips. There was a very generous portion of fish on the plate and it was served with fries, coleslaw, tartare sauce, and lemon. The fish tasted very good as did the fries. The service was very good the whole time we were there and our server was very friendly. Overall, my first experience at Cracked Crab was amazing. The food was delicious and the service was great. I definitely would come here again and would recommend this restaurant to any seafood lover.

We had our family dinner here, we ordered three crabs for a bucket, one bowl of clam chowder, one crab cake, very enough for three adults. The crabs were great tasty with warm butter, even it’s cooked from frozen, they did it very well! The clam chowder was fine(I suggested Woolys), the crab cake was good enough for us. The restaurant was historically very famous in town, there were many nice decorations and information on the wall, you shouldn’t miss it!
